Planning a trip away from home can be exciting, but ensuring you’ve locked and closed everything can be hectic as you’re running out the door. 1. Secure your windows and doors

Start by checking all windows and doors to make sure they are locked and secured. If you have sliding glass doors, put a wooden dowel in the track to prevent them from being opened. You may also consider installing a security bar or adding extra locks to your windows for added protection in order to prevent unwanted visitors inside your home.

2. Unplug electrical devices

Unplugging electrical devices such as televisions, computers, and other electronics can prevent a potential fire hazard. This also helps to save energy and lower your electricity bill while you are gone.

3. Turn off the water

Turn off the main water valve to prevent any potential leaks or water damage in your home while you’re away. 7. Ask a friend to collect your mail

Having a friend stop  by your home to get your mail can  help prevent strangers from knowing you are not home for a long period of time, reducing the risk of a break in. Having a friend popping by your house regularly, they can also ensure nothing looks out of place.
